This limit is representative of a generic class whose kinetic terms are conformally invariant in any dimension, but it is unique in simultaneously avoiding the transverse-traceless graviton ghosts plaguing D> 3 quadratic actions as well as double pole propagators in its other variables. While the two-term model is also unitary, its additional mode’s second-derivative nature forfeits finiteness.

Ghost- Free Higher Derivative Quantum Gravity, the Hierarchy and the Cosmological Constant Problems
Proposing new solution problems of the hierarchy and smallness of the cosmological constant using the Tev scale of the Standard Model in new framework of the higher-order gravity. The theory of higher derivative gravitation, whose action contains terms quadratic in the curvature in addition to the Einstein term, is a renormalizable field theory [1-5,6], but it is not free defect. This theory gi...
متن کاملA Fourth Order Accurate Finite Difference Scheme for the Elastic Wave Equation in Second Order Formulation
We present a fourth order accurate finite difference method for the elastic wave equation in second order formulation, where the fourth order accuracy holds in both space and time. The key ingredient of the method is a boundary modified fourth order accurate discretization of the second derivative with variable coefficient, (μ(x)ux)x. This discretization satisfies a summation by parts identity ...

A class of model equations that describe the bi-directional propagation of small amplitude long waves on the surface of shallow water is derived from two-dimensional potential flow equations at various orders of approximation in two small parameters, namely the amplitude parameter a 1⁄4 a=h0 and wavelength parameter b 1⁄4 ðh0=lÞ2, where a and l are the actual amplitude and wavelength of the sur...
متن کاملOn the inflationary solutions in higher - derivative gravity with dilaton field
We discuss the existence of de Sitter inflationary solutions for the string-inspired fourth-derivative gravity theories with dilaton field. We consider a space-time of arbitrary dimension D and an arbitrary parametrization of the target space metric. The specific features of the theory in dimension D = 4 and those of the special ghost-free parametrization of the metric are found. We also consid...
متن کاملConformal Gravity Challenges String Theory
The cosmological constant problem and the compatibility of gravity with quantum mechanics are the two most pressing problems in all of gravitational theory. While string theory nicely addresses the latter, it has so far failed to provide any compelling solution to the former. On the other hand, while conformal gravity nicely addresses the cosmological constant problem (by naturally quenching th...
